SRA ED invited to preview of Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum

At the kind invitation of Mr Derek Teo, GIA's Executive Director, the SRA Executive Director joined the GIA team on an exclusive preview visit on 21 April to the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM), which will showcase Southeast Asian biodiversity and environmental issues.

Among the prized exhibits are a 2.7m-long tusk of a male narwhal whale, which had been presented by the Russian government to 'Whampoa' Hoo Ah Kay in the 1860s when he was their consul in Singapore, as well as the recently acquired fossils of a family of three 150-million year old diplodocid sauropods, nicknamed Prince, Apollonia and Twinky.

The Museum, whose roots can be traced as far back as 1887 when the Raffles Library and Museum was thought to be founded, will open its doors to the public from 28 April 2015. The GIA will be organising an Industry Family Day event at the LKCNHM later in the year.
