Mr Michael Hauer

Michael Hauer is an insurance professional with over 32 years of experience in insurance and reinsurance. He currently leads Munich Re's Southeast Asia business as Managing Director and Head of Non-Life, driving growth and strategy in the Non-Life segment.

Throughout his illustrious career, Michael has held various senior leadership roles across different regions, including China, Africa, Middle East, and Munich.
His journey with Munich Re began in 1992 as an apprentice in insurance and reinsurance, where he completed a two-year apprenticeship programme and graduated with an insurance and reinsurance bachelor.

Michael's early career was marked by his roles as an underwriter in the Miscellaneous Accident department, where he was responsible for the US, North Africa, and Asia markets. In 1997, he became the first Representative of Munich Re's new Representative office in Beijing, overseeing life, non-life, and health business development. He later assumed the same position at the Shanghai Representative office in 2000.

Upon his return to Munich in 2003, Michael became the Country Coordinator for P.R. China, as well as expanding his scope as a Marine Underwriter cum Client Manager for Taiwan. In 2008, he was promoted to Senior Underwriter Marine for Africa and Asia Pacific, and later became the Head of Marine for Germany, Africa, Middle East, and Asia Pacific in 2013.
