Inaugural CEO ‘Lunch-and-Learn’ Talk – A Resounding Success!

On 17 April 2015, Mr Alain Flandrin, CEO Asia Pacific of Partner Re and SRA's Education Sub-committee Convenor, conducted the first in the series of CEO 'Lunch-and-Learn' Talks for a group of 12 young and aspiring executives (with ages ranging from 22 to 34 years) from 8 member companies. Speaking candidly on the topic of 'How to develop your Talent and Potential in our Industry', Mr Flandrin shared details of his personal 40-year career journey as well as useful tips on how the aspiring practitioners can maximise their potential and achieve success in their careers. The feedback from participants suggests that the CEO 'Lunch-and-Learn' Talk series is a resounding success. All of them agreed that it was a laudable initiative, and had provided them with a rare opportunity to have an informal and open interaction with a CEO, which may be a little more awkward with their own bosses. ‘It was an enriching light-hearted session where everyone could freely express their concerns/questions about the changing landscapes of the industry and how to climb up the corporate ladder’, reported one of the participants to her boss. One CEO of the participants commented that his staff ‘came back with glowing feedback. They felt the session was excellent – very intimate but also informative. They also thought it was a great way for some of the more junior team members to be able to hear from a senior industry expert.’ An initiative of the SRA Education sub-committee, these Talks are an initiative of the Education sub-committee and are aimed at reaching out and providing an opportunity to the younger practitioners from all functional areas within our member companies to interact up-close with a CEO and learn from his/her perspectives on the issues facing the industry. It is hoped that through this experience, our younger practitioners will develop broader insights on the global industry issues on the horizon, and consequently strengthen their bonds to the industry. Look out for details of the next CEO 'Lunch-and-Learn' Talk coming soon!
